Travel

The mayor was in Florida last week after the Des Moines City Council approved his travel request at its Nov. 18 meeting. Mayor T.M. Franklin Cownie was in Miami from Dec. 1-5 attending a forum entitled “Towards Sustainable and Resilient Communities in the Americas.” The Permanent Mission of the United States and Colombia to the Organization of American States sponsored the event. Its purpose was to initiate a pilot program to encourage cooperation, the exchange of knowledge and implementation of best practices related to municipal development, economic opportunity and democratic governance. This came at no cost to local taxpayers. CV
