Former white house chief of staff to First Lady Michelle Obama, and president of SPPG, Jackie Norris will announce on Monday she is running for an at-large seat on the Des Moines School Board.

The official kickoff event will be held virtually Monday, May 24 from 5-5:15 p.m.

Norris chose to run for the School Board seat with the goal of building stronger bonds with the community, bolstering trust and transparency in school leadership, ensuring the school district budget reflects the values of our community, and ensuring quality education regardless of zip code.

“Strong public schools are critical to the long term success of Des Moines and we need everyone, from businesses to nonprofits to local residents and government leaders, to rally around our students, teachers and staff to help them achieve success. It’s been a tough year for public education but we can’t stop forging ahead because all children deserve high quality public education in Des Moines.”

“My 20+ years of experience as an educator, government leader, non-profit CEO and parent of children who attend Des Moines public schools provide a set of experiences that will inform my service on the Board,” she said.
