The Greater Des Moines Partnership is putting together a compilation of local music to take with them to the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Called “Carpe DM,” the project is presented in collaboration with the State of Iowa as a way to introduce people to the local sound. Band submissions are being accepted now through Jan. 28. The Civic Music Association is kicking off its 90th anniversary with legendary pianist/composer Philip Glass. The composer will be performing his Works for Solo Piano at Drake’s Sheslow Auditorium on April 6, with tickets going on sale Feb. 24. The Pick o’ the Week is at Java Joes on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Fourth Street coffee house plays host to Opera 8 Women’s Acappella that night, starting at 8 p.m. Mahalo. CV
