Outdoor summer music venues are winding down, but you still have options with Music in the Junction every Thursday evening at Valley Junction in West Des Moines. There are five free concerts left in September, including Boomerang on Sept. 23.

On Sept. 24, the Avey Grouws Band from the Quad Cities performs at their album release party at xBK Live. Their new album, “Tell Tale Heart,” is a wide swath of American roots music, including blues, country, R&B, funk and unbridled rock and roll. Their first album, “The Devil May Care” reached No. 10 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart. Opening band is the Matt Woods Band. Tickets $10 in advance/$13 day of show.

It’s getting hot in the Horizon Events Center (formerly 7 Flags) where Nelly takes the stage for a concert on Nov. 5. Local rapper and musician B.Well opens. Tickets start at $49.

The Dropkick Murphys, a Celtic punk rock band, along with opener Mighty Mighty Boss Tones and Jesse Ahren plays at the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park on Sept. 17. Tickets start at $36.50. ♦
