After the departure of longtime Des Moines Register music writer Joe Lawler last week (Sept. 4 was Lawler’s last official day at the paper, though his last columns continue to roll out as of this writing), the Register has hired Matthew Leimkuehler to fill the role. Leimkuehler’s first articles should start appearing by the end of the month.

This week’s Pick o’ the Week is at Wooly’s on Sept. 19, when you can catch Holy White Hounds as they release their new album, “Sparkle Sparkle.” William Locker, Dylan Sires & Neighbors and the Melismatics play as well.
