It has been a weird few weeks for local music venues and drinking establishments. House of Bricks played its last metal show last month before immediately closing down for renovations and rebranding. El Bait Shop announced the cessation of music at its venue after December. The past couple weeks have also seen Hull Avenue Tavern closing its doors, Locust Tap being forced to follow suit by the city, and listening room The GrapeVine offering its final show. But all is not as dire as it seems. House of Bricks will re-open under a new name and feature some acoustic, singer/songwriter fare; Hull is undergoing renovations under new management and should be open again next year, and GrapeVine will open again in a new, larger venue. Just this past Wednesday, El Bait Shop dialed back and announced it would keep music on the first Wednesday of each month featuring Brother Trucker. So, really, everything’s fine. Promise.

This week’s Pick o’ the Week is over at Wooly’s on Friday, Dec 12. Head on over and check out The Maytags’ EP release show, featuring Gloom Balloon and Kris Adams & The Lefties. Ten dollars get you in the door, and the show kicks off at 8 p.m. Mahalo. CV
