The Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) is hosting its second annual Music University conference at Drake University this Oct. 4 and 5. This year’s speakers include reggae rapper Matisyahu and former Husker Du guitarist Bob Mould. Music University will also include panel discussions on show production, songwriting, marketing, website development and audio production. In addition to all the essential education for aspiring and established bands alike, it’s also worth noting that Oct. 4 will feature a panel discussion on the future of independent broadcasting called “From Podcasts to Public Radio,” featuring Iowa Public Radio’s Mark Simmet and John Pemble, Brian Campos of the Pants Off Podcast, Juice Magazine’s Joe Lawler and Cityview’s… well, me. In case you missed it, those last two names are included on the strength of our weekly co-hosted radio program on 99.1 KFMG Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m. And for Music University, check out www.desmoinesmc.com for more information, or to book your tickets.

This week’s Pick o’ the Week is at the Raccoon River Brewing Company on Saturday, Oct 4. Get down there at 7:30 p.m. and check out The High Crest’s album release show. While you’re there, buy the album. Mahalo. CV
