If you haven’t had a chance to check out Des Moines’ new public pianos yet, there are a few chances coming up to listen to them played by some folks who know what they’re doing. On Oct. 1, the cast of “Carrie: The Musical” will be performing at the Gateway piano, outside the public library. Then, on Oct. 3, Tony Bohnenkamp will help kick off the DMMC’s Music University with a performance at the East Village Piano, across from Zombie Burger.
In addition to kicking off their season this weekend, the Des Moines Symphony has partnered with local business for a “Des Moines Symphony Week.” From now through Sept. 28, you can enjoy drink and meal specials at places like Centro, Raccoon River Brewery and Big City Burgers. Check out dmsymphony.org for a complete schedule of events.
This week’s Pick o’ the Week is the Maximum Ames Music Festival, held Thursday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 28 at various locations around the city of Ames. Check out www.maximumames.com for a complete schedule and line-up, then get up there and check out some great music. Mahalo. CV
