Sound Notes Pick o’ the Week:

11/21/2012

As Lazer 103.3’s Samantha Knight said last week, “It’s a tall order, asking people to do a show on a Saturday night for nothing.” But time and again, bands and artists step up when asked. Kingston’s Superhero Rock ‘N’ Aid Masquerade is by no means the first benefit show put on this year. The benefit takes place at House of Bricks on Nov. 24, starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door, unless you come dressed in your best superhero garb, in which case they’ll knock $5 off. For your admission price, you get the chance to catch eight great bands: Aren’t We All, As For You, Nest of Snakes and Ashes Armada each take the stage for the all-ages portion of the evening. Then Mars on Fire, This Sudden Darkness, 12 Days Silent and Hath No Fury will rock the 21-plus set. There’s also a raffle with kick-ass prizes, and those tickets can be had for $5 apiece. In addition, there’s also a silent auction for a guitar donated by Stone Sour guitarist Josh Rand. Artist Shawn Palek has created some superhero-themed pieces that he’s donated to the raffle. Greg Waldrop of DMI Photography is donating his considerable talents to recording images of the event, and Lucas Brighton — formerly of September — created the poster and played a large role in promotion. Pluse, Rand drummed up piles of Stone Sour-used merch for the raffle. If you can’t make it to the show but still want to help, consider picking up one of VanderKallen’s bracelets at www.thoughtswithdots.com.
