iPad not under the mattress pad
A woman left her home around 10 a.m. on Jan. 18. When she returned, she saw the front door was open. Upon going inside, it was obvious that someone had gone through her belongings. When police arrived, it was observed that the front door had been opened by force, the door’s jamb and locks were broken, and wood pieces were on the ground. The house had been torn apart, mattresses were flipped over, and most of the woman’s belongings were thrown on the floor. Only an iPad was reported missing.

Till “theft” do us part
Police were dispatched to the south side on a burglary report on Jan. 16. Homeowners reportedly stated they left the house at 3 p.m., and when they returned about an hour-and-a-half later, they noticed the front door was open and kicked in. They said the door was locked when they left, and there were pieces of the door’s frame on the floor. The alleged victims said the entire house had been gone through, and doors and drawers had been opened in every room. Cash in the amount of $250 was missing, which had been stashed in a bedroom vanity drawer. Miscellaneous jewelry was gone, too, along with the resident’s wedding band. Oddly, one of the pillow cases was also missing from the bed.

Don’t miss the bus
Officers were dispatched to Des Moines’ north side on Jan. 16 about a dispute over a possible trespass and/or assault. Upon arriving at the scene, police met with a woman who stated that her son had been assaulted by a man living near the bus stop. The son had missed the bus, and according to her, he was waiting on a stranger’s front stoop. The man opened his door and told the boy to leave, and as he did so, the man asked if he had a problem. The boy said, “no,” and started to walk away. The man followed and grabbed him by the collar, then “got in his face.” That’s when another man reportedly came out of the same house and told the first man him to let go. The two men then went back inside together. The boy’s mom stated that, upon her arrival, she went to confront the man, and when the door opened, she smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The man told the mom that the boy wasn’t welcome on the property and that the boy had been disrespectful. No injuries were visible on the boy. CV
