Two of a Kind RossTwo of a Kind GainesRapper Rick Ross was pulled over by a Fayette County deputy in Georgia on June 10 for a window tint violation. The deputy alleged that upon the opening of Ross’ window, he smelled marijuana, giving him the right to search the vehicle. Good thing too, because they found five “marijuana cigarettes” during the search. He was arrested, but released that night on a $2,400 bail.

In a strikingly similar case, Allen Gaines, 37, was pulled over in Des Moines for the same problem. During the event, Gaines, too, was suspected of having drugs in the vehicle. Cops found narcotics and drug paraphernalia. He was held in the Polk County Jail on a bail of $1,900.

CNA - Stop HIV Iowa

Des Moines police are searching for information Crimestopper 6-25regarding the identity of the man in the accompanying pictures. The suspect, a white male who is approximately 6-foot-1 and 150 pounds, reportedly robbed the S.W. Ninth Street Iowa State Bank on June 10 around 4:50 p.m. The suspect had a gun and demanded cash from the teller. He was last seen leaving the bank on foot, wearing a white dress shirt, tie, sunglasses, a white bandana over his hair and a red bandana over his face. Anyone with information is asked to call the Des Moines Police Detective Bureau at 283-4869, or call Polk County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 223-1400.

A big steal

Bryan Gaskill, 34 and Kassandra Overton, 24, returned to their home a little after 5 p.m. on June 11 to find their sliding and screen doors open. They discovered several items missing valued at approximately $2,000 including two laptops, an e-reader, a digital camera, two personal gaming systems, a gift card and assorted value U.S. coins. They were also missing two credit cards, which have reported charges more than $650. Police were notified and requested surveillance videos from the Walgreens and Git N Go, where the cards were used. There are no known suspects at this time.

 

Empty house, empty handed

Sometime after 11 p.m. on June 12, a patrolling officer on the 200 block of Leach Avenue was flagged down by neighborhood good-guy, Bill Vertz, who said the vacant house next door had been burglarized. The officer inspected the exterior of the home and found a basement window that had been pried open with a crowbar, which was still at the scene. Officers examined the interior of the house and found it empty aside from remodeling projects. Muddy footprints trailed throughout the home starting at the windowsill where the burglar gained access.

 

Dude, you don’t live here

Des Moines Police Officers were dispatched to 1135 Geil Ave. on a possible home invasion on June 13 around 2 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Tika and Rupa Magar fighting with a man with blood on his hands. The Magars had been in bed when they heard knocking at the back door. They did not recognize him and refused to let him inside. The man, Christian Pedersen, stated that he lived at the residence and forced entry by kicking in the back door. Once inside, he attacked Tika and police arrived shortly after. Tika suffered minor injuries, and Pedersen was taken to Broadlawns and then to the Polk County Jail.

 

Not closing after all

Jim and Laura Millard requested police dispatch on June 14 at 5 p.m. regarding the burglary of copper wiring and aluminum coils from the furnace of the Ankeny home they were closing sale on that day. The theft took place sometime between June 8 and the reporting time. The cost of new materials is around $3,000, and there are no suspects at this time. CV

    June 24, 2015 issue: 2011 winter after vandalism of my car in downtown parking ramp, the police officer sent blamed me.
