SHOTS FIRED

On March 22 at about 3 a.m. police were called to the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they observed a green van leaving the scene. Police stopped the vehicle was at Mondamin and MLK, at which time a passenger jumped out yelling he had been shot. The victim stated they were attending a party on 21st Street when three to five suspects in their 20s walked passed the house and fired four to five shots into the house. The driver had picked up the wounded victim to transport him to the hospital but said he did not witness the shooting.

Police were called to the 4100 block of Southwest Fifth Street in Des Moines on March 24 at 11 p.m. for a burglary. Upon arrival, the resident stated that her on-again, off-again boyfriend had entered the home, screaming “You fucking bitch!” and then proceeded to take the couple’s dog as well as the dog kennel. Both the suspect and resident were intoxicated at the time of this report, and it was not easy to obtain all the information.

PUTTING THE HAMMER DOWN

Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of 13th Street at around 7:30 p.m. on March 24 for a report of an assault with a weapon. Upon arrival, police met with the victim who said she was asleep in her bedroom when the female suspect entered, yelling at her and telling her she owed the suspect’s boyfriend money. The victim reported that the suspect began to strangle her before taking a hammer and breaking all of her bedroom furniture. The suspect admitted that the hammer’s only intended use was to damage furniture and scare the victim. CV

 

Younkers Building Fire Info and Photo Request

The Des Moines Police Department, working in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, is seeking help from the public obtaining video and photos of the fire that destroyed the Younkers Building on Saturday March 29th 2014.

The initial call regarding the fire came in to the Des Moines Police Communications Center at 12:51 am on the 29th.   If anyone has photos or video of the Younkers Building at 701 Walnut just before or after that time they are asked to send them to Des Moines Police Detective Jack Kamerick at jdkamerick@dmgov.org who can also be contacted at 515-237-1495 with information or tips.
