FATAL CRASH
Des Moines police responded to a crash on Feb. 4 at 8 a.m. on the Highway 5 by-pass just east of the Clover Hills Drive overpass. Des Moines Fire Medics and Patrol Officers responded and found one driver dead on the scene. Upon initial investigation, police believe a Chevy pick-up was westbound on Hwy. 5 when it lost control, began sliding sideways and crossed the median striking an eastbound Chevy Cavalier. The driver of the Cavalier was pronounced dead while the pick-up driver was taken to the Des Moines Police Traffic Office for an interview. Road conditions were likely a factor in the collision.

The Des Moines Police Department responded on Feb. 6 at 7:12 p.m. to Game Stop, 5126 S.E. 14th St., where a suspect demanded money and merchandise taking phones from the store and employees before leaving. The suspect did not show a weapon but threatened to shoot employees. Investigations continue.
WAS A TRASH CAN FIRE WORTH IT?
Des Moines Police responded to an arson, which was captured on morning video surveillance showing a suspect setting fire to the contents of a garbage can at the apartment complex at the 1400 block of 22nd Street. A witness from the apartment complex contacted the Des Moines Police Department stating the suspect was in the area, and a 26-year-old Des Moines resident was arrested and charged. CV
