CALL TO CANZ
Police were called to Canz Bar and Grill, 2956 E. Grand Ave., regarding a third-degree burglary. Sometime between 5 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 11, someone had broken through the front glass door and damaged three machines containing money. The damage/loss was estimated at $10,000. Police believe a slingshot was used to shoot a ball bearing through a front glass window as well, probably to check for an alarm to sound. Police are studying video surveillance.
STEAL-N-SAVE
Shop-N-Save, 2120 Martin Luther King Parkway, reported a burglary, which occurred at 2 a.m. on Dec. 12. The suspect had broken into the front glass door by shattering the glass with a chunk of concrete. Video surveillance showed a hooded male suspect climb over the counter, rummage around steal one carton of cigarettes and leave through the back door.
THIRSTY BOOZERS
While patrolling the neighborhood, an officer noticed a door open at the Des Moines Food and Liquor, 5000 S.W. Ninth St. Upon closer look, the cop saw the bolts had been pried from the door to force entry. Initial inventory revealed $300 in cash was missing from the register as well as one case of Budweiser, a six-pack of Budweiser, a 12-pack of Bud Light and an 18-pack of Natural Light. An unknown number of cigarette cartons were also taken. Police will study surveillance tapes. CV
