They had came up behind him and hit him across the face, causing him to hunch over, and then tried to kick him in the face when a person driving by stopped and laid on the horn, causing the suspects to flee. The citizen gave the victim a ride to the VA and left without giving a name. The victim had swelling and multiple fractures to the side of his face. No suspects were named.
BUILDING WALLS
An officer on patrol observed two men enter a Hubbell construction site at Southwest Ninth and Dart on Oct. 22 at about 1:40 a.m. They each took a four-by-eight-foot foam board and left on foot. The cop caught up to one of them who smelled of alcohol and said they were taking the material to use for shelter at their homeless camp. He was arrested, and the foam board was returned to the site. The other piece had an estimated value of $200.
JUST A SHOT AWAY
Officers stopped a suspected impaired driver on I-235 near Polk Boulevard on Oct. 21 just before midnight. Two people, age 24 and 22, inside seemed intoxicated or high. Upon searching they discovered a pot pipe, and a needle, spoon and belt used for shooting up heroin. They told police they were on the way back from a failed attempt at buying heroin in Iowa City. Later police discovered a baggie of heroin where the female victim had been standing. Both were arrested and charged. CV
