Police were dispatched to Central Iowa Shelter and Services, 1420 Mulberry St., around 10:40 p.m. regarding an assault. Three witnesses told police that a homeless resident had slapped a staff member in the face after being asked to leave. He was arrested.

RAMSACKED

A woman came home to the 2900 block of 49th Street around 2:30 p.m. to find the inside of the house destroyed. She called her husband, who said he had to clear stuff out of the way in order to walk through the house. The burglar had entered through the back door and left the front door unlocked. The back door’s screen was damaged. It is still unknown if anything was taken. The victim believes that someone may be sleeping in his house while they’re out.

 

GOLD DIGGER

A man came home around 3:50 p.m. to find his back door had been forced open and numerous items stolen at the 1800 block of Lay Street. Stolen items included a 14-carat gold chain valued at $1,000, gold earrings valued at $200, a gold ankle bracelet valued at $200, an unknown amount of custom jewelry valued at $300, Carrera sunglasses valued at $200, Ray Ban sunglasses valued at $150, a Bank of America checkbook and a CPAP machine valued at $2,500.
