Downtown residential project unveiled

Knapp Properties recently unveiled plans for a downtown residential project located at 420 Court Ave. The 81 new units will be above the Hy-Vee grocery store that’s currently under construction in the Court Avenue Entertainment District. The store is slated to open in the winter of 2016, and the apartments are scheduled to be finished at the same time. The building will be named Fourth + Court. Waukee is a place to grow

Waukee has grown by 30 percent since 2010, according to the city’s fall 2015 special census results recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. The new population counts show an increase of 4,155 new residents since the 2010 Census, bringing the official population to 17,945. The census in 2005 reported a population of 9,108.

MudbuM Boys open in Urbandale

The rowdy all-American Iowa boys that star in the reality television show “MudbuM Boys” recently opened a new store in Urbandale called MudbuM Supply Shack. The shack sells fishing poles, fishing equipment, camping necessities, outdoor gear, T-shirts and other merchandise used by fishermen, outdoorsmen and fans of the show. The show’s third season is currently being filmed and airs on the Pursuit channel. The store is located at 3892 Urbandale Drive in Urbandale. An official grand opening is scheduled for May 21. Pie Five

Pie Five Pizza Co. has opened a new restaurant in Ankeny across from DMACC on Oralabor Road. The new eatery is the first of its kind in Iowa. Pie Five’s unique concept allows customers to customize handcrafted artisan pizzas from a selection of more than 28 fresh toppings, seven sauces and four made-from-scratch crusts. Customers can also choose from a wide selection of signature pizzas, salads or desserts. The store is donating 50 percent of its proceeds from its soft opening this week to the Kiwanis Miracle League, which provides an accessible and safe environment for people with physical disabilities to play baseball. Barn reborn

Iowa brides looking for a country wedding venue will soon have a new option. Construction is under way to renovate a red barn into a first-class wedding location. The renovated barn is about 18 minutes outside of Des Moines, just south of Martensdale. The Red Acre Barn project will feature high ceilings, a balcony and room for 300 guests. Old barn wood will adorn the walls, and the ceiling will be made of tin from chicken coops. The site features 24 acres overlooking a vineyard and a rural country landscape. New containers open in West Des Moines

West Des Moines is set to get Iowa’s first version of The Container Store. The new outlet will sell thousands of variations of items used for storing and organizing your closets, kitchens, bathrooms and just about everything else. It will be located in the vacant space next to The Fresh Market and is expected to be open next fall prior to the holiday shopping season. First office in Greater Des Moines for Heart of America

Heart of America Group, a business based in Moline, Illinois, recently leased a new office space in Des Moines’ East Village. The new spot is inside the historic Teachout Building and near Heart of America’s 108-room, six-story AC Marriott Hotel the company is developing. Heart of America Group has many Des Moines business interests, including Johnny’s Italian Steakhouses, the Iowa Machine Shed Restaurant and various hotels across central Iowa. CV
