New men’s salon will serve alcohol

4/13/2016

A new West Des Moines barbershop called “Scissors and Scotch” is set to give haircuts, facial hair trims and men’s grooming procedures — while serving Scotch. The new shop is scheduled to open next month in the Paradise Pointe shopping center on Mills Civic Parkway near Jordan Creek Town Center next to Firebirds Wood Fired Grill. The idea originally came to life 13 months ago in Omaha and caters specifically to men. There will be plush sofas in the lounge area along with a full bar, including six craft beers. There will also be more than 30 types of scotch to choose from, and customers will receive a free drink after getting a grooming service. The new men’s salon will have 10 chairs.

The Cash Saver Food Outlet on Hickman in Clive will soon close, according to reports. The 65,000-square-foot Cash Saver discount grocery store was formerly a Dahl’s and was purchased in 2015. The store’s parent company is choosing to focus its efforts on its other stores in Des Moines. It’s not yet certain when the store will close, but according to some employees at the location, it could be at the end of this month. Cash Saver stores on East Euclid and Fleur Drive in Des Moines will remain open.

While renovations are underway, Apple’s interim home will be in the former New York & Company, which recently closed. Five months of construction are anticipated. The new space will total more than 7,000 square feet.
