West Des Moines aquatic center opens

Grab your swimsuit and head over to the Holiday Aquatic Center, which opened on June 16 for swim lessons. Open swim hours began the following day at 11:30 a.m. The aquatic center was scheduled to open on May 31, but a broken water pipe causing a leak forced owners to postpone the date. The restaurant opened June 16 in the Shoppes at Prairie Crossing development, just south of Bass Pro Shops. Iowa Food Cooperative gets more space

Formerly located in Merle Hay Mall, the food co-op recently moved into a larger Des Moines space at 4944 Franklin Ave. in the Franklin Plaza shopping center. The Iowa Food Cooperative provides locally grown, raised or made products to members. Jethro’s adds ‘Bacon Bacon’ location to West Des Moines

Replacing the former Hooters restaurant at 1480 22nd St. is Jethro’s BBQ n’ Bacon Bacon. The latest in Jethro’s BBQ will feature — you guessed it — all things bacon. Bruce Gerleman, Des Moines restaurateur, said the concept has been in the works for several years and it is expected to open in September. Chef Dom Iannarelli is creating the menu with options such as bacon-wrapped ribs and bacon steaks. And if you’re interested in a sweet-and-salty combo, it will also serve chocolate-covered bacon. This is Gerleman’s seventh restaurant in the metro, and he said it will create 100 jobs. People can apply at all Jethro’s locations. CV
