Crazy like a fox

2/24/2016

It’s almost March, and that means one of two things: February’s icy storms are nearly over, or the temperature goes above 35 degrees Fahrenheit and Iowans start wearing their shorts and T-shirts again. Many are so frazzled from the winter that, while coming out of hibernation may be the goal, some aren’t sure where to go.

Foxy Boot Camp will be held at Fox Brewing on Sundays at 11 a.m.

Simple: Follow the Fox.

You don’t have to be crazy like one to get in on the fun of Foxy Boot Camp at Fox Brewing.

“It’s a 45-minute total body workout — boot camp-style — incorporating cardio and body weight-based strength training hosted at Fox Brewing on Sundays at 11 a.m.,” said Jennifer Childress, owner of Jenspiration. “Your price of admission, $10, includes one pint of craft beer.”

Childress will lead participants through a workout that is sure to get their hearts revved and their muscles pumped up. The event is open to men and women of various fitness levels.

“We’ll be focusing on functional fitness to build strength, balance and cardio endurance. We’ll focus on total body exercises, incorporating cardio bursts, strength training, core work and some stretching,” Childress said.

Foxy Boot Camp will be meeting regularly on Sundays at 11 a.m. Each week will incorporate exercises from the previous week, though Childress will also be switching things up at times.

“Even though we don’t have equipment, there are endless combinations in how to vary the workout,” Childress said.

“We really just want to provide a fun atmosphere for guests to enjoy the craft brews that we’re creating right here,” said Lindsey Turner, Tap Room manager at Fox Brewing. “We certainly hope people leave the class feeling rewarded for trying something new and different. That’s what the craft industry is all about — new and different.”

Childress and Fox Brewing connected by chance, fueled by a love of craft beer.

“Jennifer reached out to us here at the brewery after seeing another fitness event we’ve been hosting the last two weeks,” Turner said. “We wanted to try getting different groups of people in the tap room trying our craft brews by pairing up with a couple of local instructors. It’s been great to see people coming in excited about the classes, and even better, when they leave excited about the beer that they tried here at Fox.”

“I’m so stoked, because I love local craft beer and supporting local, so it’s a win-win-win,” Childress said.

Space is limited for the event, and spots will fill up fast, so make sure you stop in and sign up early if you’re interested. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the brewery for anyone.

“I think people who enjoy taking care of their bodies, also enjoy rewarding their taste buds with some tasty craft beer after their workout is finished,” Turner said. “We see a huge community of people who enjoy cycling, yoga and fitness in general, flocking to try out our tap room, excited to talk about new beers. I think the craft community gets people excited and passionate about trying different things. I think that the fitness community gets people excited in the same way.” CV
