Urbandale Voters Approve New Police Station
11/5/2026URBANDALE, Iowa — Urbandale voters approved a $25 million bond referendum Tuesday to help fund construction of a new police station. The measure passed with more than the 60% voter approval required under Iowa law, according to unofficial election results.
“We’re grateful that residents have placed their trust in us to move this project forward,” said Mayor Robert Andeweg. “Now it’s our job to deliver. That means managing costs carefully, keeping residents informed, and making sure we’re building a police station that will serve Urbandale well for decades to come.”
The new station will replace the City’s current facility, built in 1982 when Urbandale had about 18,000 residents. Today, Urbandale is home to nearly 50,000 people, and the Police Department has outgrown its existing space.
What’s next: With voter approval secured, the City will continue design and construction planning for the approximately 95,000-square-foot station at Douglas Avenue and 100th Street. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2028.
The approximately $60 million project will be funded through a combination of voter-approved bonds, tax increment financing, City reserves, and local option sales tax revenue. The financing plan is designed to move the project forward without increasing the City’s current debt service property tax levy.
The City will share project updates, including design and construction milestones, at www.urbandale.org/new-police-building
