Iowa Homes for Heroes Completes Second Home for Iowa Veteran

URBANDALE, Iowa (October 1, 2026) — Iowa Homes for Heroes has completed its second home, continuing the non-profit organization’s mission to build and donate homes for disabled veterans and first responders across Iowa.

The new home, located in R&R Realty Group’s Oakwood Haven development in Urbandale, will be dedicated to Iowa veteran Johnny Mellor during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 8.

KRM Homes led construction of the home, with support from R&R Realty Group, the State of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, and additional community partners who helped make the project possible.

“Completing our second home is an important milestone for Iowa Homes for Heroes, but this is really about honoring Johnny and his service to our country,” said Paul Rupprecht, Executive Vice President of R&R Realty Group. “We’re proud to work alongside KRM Homes, the State of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs and everyone who came together to make this home possible. It’s incredible to see what can happen when people across our community rally around a shared mission.”

“It has truly been an honor for KRM Development to be part of this experience! Our team, our trade contractors, and our suppliers have been so proud to bring Johnny and his family’s new home to life,” said Kirk Mickelsen, President of KRM Development, LLC. “We are grateful for his service to our country and could not be more excited to be part of this experience. Thank you to the R&R team, the State of Iowa, and the Iowa Department of Veteran Affairs for including KRM in this Iowa Homes For Heros home.”

Iowa Homes for Heroes was established in 2025 to give back to those who have dedicated their lives to serving others. The organization completed its first home in Urbandale last fall and plans to continue working with local builders, community organizations, and state agencies to build homes that meet the needs of each selected recipient.
