  • As Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success, Spiller will plan, coordinate and direct all aspects of Student Services at DMACC.
  • Spiller has previously served in several Student Service capacities at DMACC, including a leadership role in the College’s strategic planning initiative.

DMACC President Rob Denson announced today that Erica Spiller has been named the College’s new Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success following a competitive national search.

Spiller will oversee all aspects of Student Services at DMACC, including recruiting, admissions, registration, counseling, advising, financial aid and marketing, among others. DMACC is the largest undergraduate institution in Iowa, serving nearly 60,000 students across the College’s six campuses and seven learning centers each year.

“I’m looking forward to my new role and responsibilities at DMACC,” said Spiller, a DMACC graduate who has previously served in several Student Services capacities at the College. “The various positions I’ve held here at the College and my leadership role in strategic planning will allow us to have an efficient and impactful transition in Student Services. My emphasis will be to further improve the student experience at all DMACC locations, while preparing for the many challenges we face in higher education today.”

Spiller’s previous roles at DMACC include serving as the College’s Orientation and Transfer Coordinator, as Assistant Director of Student Development and most recently, as Associate Provost of Student Services at the DMACC Urban Campus in Des Moines. She has also served in a leadership role in the College’s strategic planning initiative.

“I’ve worked with Erica for nearly a decade, and I appreciate her dedication to serving students, her collaborative work style and her creative approach in the workplace,” said Rob Denson, DMACC President. “She was the strongest candidate among all the applicants, and DMACC will be well-served by her knowledge, commitment and leadership.”

Spiller said one of her first priorities would be to take her office on the road to DMACC campuses and centers across Central Iowa.

“Our goal is to better serve all students, and I want to be a resource and supportive partner across the district,” Spiller said. “This can be better achieved if I’m working with all of our locations.”

Spiller holds a master’s degree in English Literature from Virginia Commonwealth University, a master’s degree in Higher Education – Assessment and Evaluation from Kaplan University (now Purdue University Global), a bachelor’s degree in English and Theatre Arts from Simpson College and an associate degree in Liberal Arts from DMACC.

Additionally, Spiller is a published author. Her most recent book, “Iowa Women’s Corrections: A History,” delves into the experiences of incarcerated women dating back to the mid-1800s and examines the overcrowding, underfunding and discriminatory practices these women faced throughout Iowa’s history.

In her new role, Spiller replaces Shelli Allen, who recently accepted the role of Vice President of Student Success & Engagement at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.

Spiller began her new duties July 1.
