Moberg Gallery to host opening reception for “Contemporary Abstraction”

5/23/2022

Join us for the opening reception for the international group show, Contemporary Abstraction, at Moberg Gallery, 2411 Grand, Des Moines, IA 50312 on Friday, May 27, 2022, from 5pm – 8pm.

Paintings are arriving for Contemporary Abstraction from all over the country and the globe, including works from Canada, Germany, Greece, Ireland, and Spain, by artists who have exhibited far and wide. The explosive gestural marks by Daniela Schweinsberg, of Frankfurt am Main, will be included with the highly defined abstract objects and figures of Ruben Sanchez, currently living in Badalona, Spain. And somewhere between the clean lines and traces of paint, one can find the Mediterranean warmth and leisure of Charoula Nikolaidou’s large-scale tableau.

Hanging with the stellar art from abroad will be that of artists from the States, some in or with connections to Iowa, as well. Jeffrey Glossip, a Des Moines native now living in Seattle, creates geometric wonders which have been shown on both coasts and throughout the Midwest, South, and Pacific Northwest. Al Harris-Fernandez, residing in Sioux City, returns to exhibiting his dense abstract paintings, after almost two decades as museum director of the Sioux City Art Center. Also included in this vibrant exhibit is Yale graduate, Deborah Zlotsky, who taught for nine years at University of Northern Iowa and has received numerous fellowships, including a 2019 Guggenheim, and many residencies, including Yaddo and The MacDowell Colony.

Artists in this exhibit: Justin Beller, Derrick Breidenthal, Johanne Brouillette, Tibi Chelcea, Linda Colletta, Jeffrey Glossip, Chuck Hipsher, Al Harris-Fernandez, Leon Hodes, Anita Jung, Alyson Khan, Al Maser, TJ Moberg, Lola Montejo, Charoula Nikolaidou, Teo Nguyen, Conn Ryder, Daniela Schweinsberg, Ruben Sanchez, Alayne Spafford, Pamela Staker, and Deborah Zlotsky.
