Schupan Acquires Mid America Recycling

Michigan’s largest deposit container recycler expands operations to Iowa

Kalamazoo, MI, March 8, 2022 – Schupan and Sons, Inc., a global materials recycler, processor, distributor and manufacturer, announced its acquisition of Des Moines, Iowa based Mid America Recycling. The official announcement was made Tuesday, March 8th.

“Mid America Recycling’s multi-material recycling and deposit container operations align perfectly with being an industry leader in providing sustainable, high-quality, recycled materials,” said Tom Emmerich, Schupan COO. “Mid America has been a recycling leader in Iowa for years, and has a knowledgeable team with strong customer relationships. We’re a really good fit.”

Nationally recognized for its efficient Michigan deposit container processing system, the acquisition of Mid America Recycling also aligns with Schupan’s strategic growth plans, domestically and abroad. Marc Schupan, CEO of Schupan states, “Not only does Mid America fit what we do and where we’re going, we believe their culture aligns strongly with Schupan, which is very important to us.”

Co-owner and president of Mid America Recycling, Mick Barry is equally enthused about transitioning his company to Schupan. “I have known the Schupan organization for years and have always respected the way they operate and treat people. I strongly believe we are leaving our company in the right hands.”

Schupan looks forward to getting to know their new employees and learning more about the Iowa marketplace. “While we are certainly excited to hit the ground in Iowa, we know we must first get to know our new employees and build relationships with Iowa distributors, retailers, the legislature and communities.
