Ending Summer Hunger Initiative Feeds Local Families with Ham Donation: Hy-Vee to Donate More Than 4,300 Hams to Food Bank of Iowa

5/24/2021

Hy-Vee, Inc. will deliver 4,331 hams to Food Bank of Iowa on Wednesday, May 26 at 9 a.m. The donation to the largest food bank in Iowa is part of Hy-Vee’s “Ending Summer Hunger” initiative to help provide meat to food banks throughout its eight-state region.

The donation comes as food banks across the Midwest struggle to keep their shelves stocked due to continuous economic impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. This location is one of five food banks where Hy-Vee is donating more than 17,300 total hams in support of hunger-relief efforts in communities served by Hy-Vee stores.

“We rely on donations to help feed Iowans in need,” said Michelle Book, president and CEO of Food Bank of Iowa. “This high-quality ham will feed thousands of families who are struggling to make ends meet. We are thankful for our partnership with Hy-Vee and their dedication to ending hunger.”

In total, the entire donation to Food Bank of Iowa weighs approximately 39,700 pounds and is worth more than $109,000.
