Three Ankeny High Schools to unveil student art in statewide exhibits

Why: ArtShare is a program designed by Veridian Credit Union to celebrate the talent of local student artists. Veridian partners with 10 Iowa high schools to host public exhibits of student-created art in five Veridian branches across the state. Art teachers from three Ankeny high school selected a total of 30 pieces for display in Veridian’s branch at 1201 S. Ankeny Blvd in Ankeny, where they will remain on display for one year. The public is invited to an ArtShare Premiere event on Saturday, March 30 from 9-11 a.m. to unveil the collection. Refreshments will be served.

Cost: Free and open to the public.

Three Ankeny high schools are among 10 participating in Veridian Credit Union’s statewide ArtShare, a program designed by Veridian to display student art in the credit union’s branches across the state. Art teachers from Ankeny Centennial High School, Ankeny High School and Ankeny Christian Academy selected a total of 30 pieces that are now on display in the lobby of Veridian’s branch at 1201 S. Ankeny Blvd. in Ankeny. An ArtShare reception with refreshments will be open to the public on March 30 from 9-11 a.m. to unveil the collection.

There’s a lot of young, artistic talent in our community,” said Heather Plum, Veridian’s ArtShare coordinator. “ArtShare gives us a chance to recognize that talent. By displaying it in our branch, we’re sharing it with our members and making our branch a more welcoming space. Everybody wins.” Veridian has two-dimensional pieces professionally framed and displays them in the branch for one year, then returns them to the school.

In total, ten schools’ art department leaders selected 140 pieces ranging from oil on canvas to graphic design, jewelry, pottery and more. Exhibits are on display at select Veridian branches in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Waterloo and Waverly.

Ankeny Centennial High School students featured include Alayna Cullen, Kaleb Faas, Carson Hans, Karter Kester, Sydney Madison, Ryann Marzen, Danae Nordstrom, Lauren Pair, Gracie Rathbun and Allison Su.

Ankeny High School students featured include Bridgette Browning, Naomi Casady, Wahab Fnu, Maxim Martin, Abby Noel, Callie Pershin, Natasha Pershin, Sophia Schoolen, Kaylynne Snow and Hayden Williams.

Ankeny Christian Academy students featured include Nick Coburn, Colby Elrod, Keenan Jacobs, Alyssa Kunz, Cale Leever, Nicole Mahoney, David Nelson, Dawson Simpson, Jake Turnbull and Libby Wilken.

The credit union also offers an ArtShare Scholarship for $2,000 toward tuition for an educational program leading to a career in the arts.
