Special Olympics Iowa Will Hold Annual Warren County Polar Plunge on Feb. 23 at Lake Ahquabi

2/19/2019

Grimes, IA – The Warren County Polar Plunge a Special Olympics Iowa fundraiser is set for Saturday, February 23 at Lake Ahquabi in Indianola. The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Special Olympics Iowa athletes by taking a cold dip in the frigid waters.

“This Winter we are taking the whole Polar Plunge® concept to a whole new level,” said Mary Besler, LETR Event Coordinator.  “Since Lake Ahquabi will still be frozen, we will be going out in the early hours of the morning to break the 10+ inches of ice,” added Besler.

Wondering how you can get involved?  There are many different ways to get involved – plunge solo, plunge as a team, toss your boss, sponsor an individual or team or volunteer at the event. If you are too chicken to plunge, you can register to raise funds and receive a T-shirt and other prizes. The more money a plunger or chicken raises, the more prizes they receive. Special prizes, including apparel and gift cards, will be given to the plunger who raises the most money, the chicken with the most money, and the team with the best costumes.

Each plunger or chicken must raise a minimum of $75. Immediately following the Plunge there will be a post-party where participants can warm up and enjoy food, drink, music, and prizes.

All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Iowa and help to continue to provide year-round sports training and competition to more than 13,000 Special Olympic athletes and Unified Sports Partners.

Thank you to our Polar Plunge sponsors: City State Bank, Kwik Star, Bengard Roofing, Simpson College, KNIA KRLS, the Record Herald, HyVee, Midwest Regional Dive Team, Coldwell Banker, Details Plus Collision Center, Warren County Oil Cooperative Association, Medicap LTC, Shottenkirk Ford of Indianola, W Reeves & Associates, Downey Tire Pros, Rudolf Insurance Consultants, Putney Auction Servies, Milo Locker, Parker Signs, Indianola Fire Department
