THOUSANDS EXPECTED AT POPULAR, FREE KITE FESTIVAL SATURDAY

5/1/2018

JOHNSTON, Iowa – The fifth annual Kites on the Green is set to be bigger and better than ever with near perfect weather expected. Join us Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Johnston Commons, the grassy area near the Johnston Public Library located at 6700 Merle Hay Road. This free, public event will feature giant show kite displays, kite fighting, celebrity bol races, free kite building, sidewalk art, face painting, live music from Grammy Award Winning Musician Justin Roberts, and delicious food to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

Kites On The Green is the creation of Mayor Paula Dierenfeld who loved attending her hometown’s kite festival as a child. “One of my fondest childhood memories was seeing hundreds of colorful kites fly over the golf course in the small rural town in which I grew up. Kites On The Green is a wonderful opportunity for central Iowans to come together for a family-friendly festival as beautiful colors fill the Johnston sky,” Dierenfeld said.

The city of Johnston would like to thank the Kites on the Green community sponsors. Their support is what keeps the festival completely free for everyone. Visit cityofjohnston.com/kitesonthegreenfor the complete schedule of events.
