DOWNTOWN FARMERS’ MARKET KICKS OFF SEASON ON SATURDAY
5/5/2017What: The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines will open for its 42nd season on Saturday. Opening Day typically draws 40,000 people to The Market.
When: 7 a.m. – Noon., Saturday, May 6.
Where: The Market spans nine city blocks in the Historic Court District, from First Street to Fifth Avenue. It extends north and south on Second Avenue, Third Street and Fourth Street.
History: The Downtown Farmers’ Market began in 1976 with just 15 vendors and an average of 200 shoppers. Today, in its 42nd season, The Market supports nearly 300 vendors, welcomes an average 25,000 visitors each Saturday and expects around 40,000 visitors Opening Day.
