Dead Heads Unite on April 20 to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of ‘The Grateful Dead Movie’ in Cinemas Nationwide

This Cult Favorite Returns to the Big Screen for a Special One-Night Celebration, Including an Exclusive Bonus Documentary from 1977

DENVER – March 23, 2017 – Dead Heads are in for a treat as “The Grateful Dead Movie 40th Anniversary” returns to movie theaters nationwide for one night on Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. local time, from Fathom Events and Rhino Entertainment, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the film’s release.

Co-directed by Jerry Garcia and shot on 16mm film during October 1974’s five-night “farewell” run at San Francisco’s iconic Winterland, this concert-film captures incredible live performances from the revered band (Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Donna Godchaux and Keith Godchaux). In addition to the feature presentation, cinema audiences will also enjoy an exclusive look at footage from the upcoming Grateful Dead documentary, “Long Strange Trip,” executive produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by Amir Bar-Lev. Audiences will also see a never-before-seen mini-documentary about the band’s legendary May 8, 1977 show at Cornell University, including new interviews with fans who were in attendance.

Tickets for “The Grateful Dead Movie 40th Anniversary” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 500 select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Event’s website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

This special anniversary serves as an opportunity for lifelong fans to reconnect, as well as a chance for new fans to experience the exhilaration of what it would have been like to see one of the Dead’s legendary live shows.

“Grateful Dead fans across the country share a special connection with each other and with their favorite band,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said. “Gathering these dedicated fans together to experience exciting content from their favorite artists is at the core of what we do, and this event is a great example of that.”
