Set phasers for Star Trek Screening

12/5/2012

Last week’s meet-up at Jordan Creek’s Century 20 theater was a great start to what will hopefully be a new tradition. Trekkies, redshirts and Klingons from all over the area beamed down to the theater to see Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the Enterprise crew on the big screen in preparation for the “Star Trek The Next Generation” season two remastered release on Blu-ray this week. If you haven’t heard, Paramount is restoring all seven seasons of the classic sci-fi series from the original film negatives and recreating every special effect from scratch to release in remastered high definition. Cinemark theaters and Fathom Events are pairing up to screen fan-favorite episodes and never-before-seen featurettes on the silver screen before going to home release. You don’t get many chances to see your favorite TV show in theaters, so this is a real treat, and we want to see more geeks put their cars into warp drive for season three (date TBA).

If you missed out on “Star Trek” or are waiting for something more up your geek alley, mark Dec. 13 on your calendar for “The Hobbit.” The midnight show starts at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, so we expect all hobbits, dwarves, elves and even orcs to show up early to hang out. There might even be some rewards for costumes. Remember: Being a geek isn’t just limited to technology; there are plenty of film geeks out there, and Geek Speak Forum wants to represent. So put on your robe and wizard hat, because it’s Hobbit time! Join us as we go there and back again with the first installment of “The Hobbit” trilogy. Look for the Geek Speak Forum crew outside the theater early and check our website for updates. CV
