The Head and The Heart keeps music real with acoustic instruments and strong lyrics. Formed five years ago after a series of open mic nights in Seattle, the six members of The Head and The Heart — Josiah Johnson, Jonathan Russell, Charity Rose Thielen, Chris Zasche, Kenny Hensley and Tyler Williams — burned their own copies of their debut album to be sold at their shows. Soon enough, local record stores were selling them faster than they could supply them. The indie folk band released its second album, “Let’s Be Still,” in October of 2013 and performed at this year’s Lollapalooza. With the help of acoustic guitars and violins, The Head and The Heart keeps its music soulful and natural, giving listeners the chance to focus on the thoughtful lyrics of each song. In the middle of a three-month tour across the U.S., The Head and The Heart will make a stop in Des Moines on Monday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. at Hoyt Sherman Place.
