Granite City puts new spin on Sunday brunch

4/6/2016

Granite City has been a staple restaurant and brewery in Clive for 15 years, especially as the spot for one of the best brunches in Des Moines. In those 15 years, Granite City’s buffet-style brunch has seen little change, until now.

“We’ve had one of the more successful brunches in Des Moines for a long time, and sometimes you just get comfortable because your guests love what you have. But we just felt like it was time to create a more fresh, high-quality product for our guests,” said David Meillier, general manager of the Clive location.

Every Sunday starting at 9 a.m., guests will be able to choose from a brunch menu double that is double the size of the past menu.

New brunch items at Granite City include fruit infused mimosas, fresh fruit options and new and improved salads and entrees.

There are more desserts, a larger selection of fresh fruit, new pastries, new unique pasta and salad options, and additions to the drink menu, to name just a few.

“A lot of the changes were made so that people can spend more time together at the table rather than spending so much time in the buffet line,” said Meillier.

The drink and brewery menus have undergone changes as well.

The brunch menu now also includes new additions to a very popular drink menu. Fruit-infused mimosas are now featured items. Additions to the bottomless mimosas include raspberry, blueberry and mango. Granite City is also featuring its own twist on the Michelada.

The new additions have been generating rave reviews.

“Most of our guests who join us for brunch come on a fairly regular basis, and they were really excited to see some new items on the menu,” said Meillier.

The Clive restaurant was the fourth to open for the chain, which now has 35 locations across the U.S. The restaurant and brewery are one-of-kind, however.

“Des Moines has a very fast, up-and-coming craft beer scene,” said Meillier. “We’re starting our new guest tap program. So, we are featuring eight different beers from the greater Des Moines area. We’re trying to develop that culture and let people know that, yes, we make great beer, but there’s a lot of other people out there who make great beer, too.”

There are also monthly tapping events in which the brewery taps a new beer to add to its rotating seasonal beers on the menu, usually every first Sunday of the every month. CV
