I met John many years ago in wash dc through my frat brother and close friend Bill Van Orsdel. We had a great hunt together in Mexico besides other social affairs in Iowa. John was personable and understated. He was a great loss.
I worked for John’s dad and his buddy Bob Root. Back in the 70’s J3 as we referred to him back then always seemed much more mature than his age. He became a serious man that did not shrink when faced with significant issues. I think a good story to compare J3 with his dad was when John almost fell off his roof replacing shingles. J3 was upset which is a good response but J3 would have a new house built rather climb on the roof to fix it. John and his buddies like Sam Walton became legends in business and economic evolution which J3 continued but made the evolution his own.
His airline was a total failure.
Wish we had more people like Mr Ruan

I knew him as a friend! That was one of his greatest qualities…being a good friend! We will all miss him!
