Lage recently put together a 300-page hardcover book, “Iowa Musicianship.” It features his photos of more than 100 Iowa musicians at various live, local music venues. Do you tire of listening to “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey? If mainstream music and radio hits have you changing channels, there’s a new radio station in Des Moines. Studio One, at 94.1 FM, is a new alternative station by Iowa Public Radio. They play music by emerging artists and local musicians as well. A recent listen included hits by Little Feat, Amy Winehouse and Leon Bridges. Stream online or listen retro-style on your FM radio.
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inducted 33 musicians and music industry folks in September 2024. Des Moines area winners include Dave Ducharme-Jones; individual award. The Iowa Rocks Talent Contest Band winners include the band Procedure and members Joshua Snuffin, Wyatt Dymond and Jack Nyberg. The instrumental award goes to Jessie Hovland, a drummer for the Gilded Cage. Spirit awards include Brian Farland, who publishes a weekly “The List – Live Music in DSM Area.” Wendy Hull received a post-humous award for her “Wednesday’s Notes.”
