6/3/2026Des Moines’ own Scot Sutherland received the Blues Music Award in the Instrumentalist-Bass category in Memphis in May. The Blues Awards is a national honor, often dubbed the “Grammys of the Blues.” Sutherland has played bass with other musicians who have won Blues Awards in the past, including Tommy Castro, Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia. He has recently toured with Bill Murray and the Blood Brothers. If you are lucky, you might catch him playing bass in one of the Des Moines area bands.
The internationally acclaimed Jupiter String Quartet, a tightly knit chamber ensemble brought together by family bonds and musical passion, will present two special performances at the Zenith Chamber Music Festival on June 12 and 13. Jupiter won numerous chamber awards and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and other prestigious musical halls. June 12 is held at Grace United Methodist Church and June 13 at Drake’s Sheslow Auditorium. Both concerts are free. For more information, visit zenithchambermusicfestival.org.
