Sound Notes Pick O’ the Week
10/24/2012It’s time for the “Happy Halloween” edition of Sound Notes. So get your costumes ready, and let’s see what kind of entertainment we can scare up for the week. (I promise that will be the last Halloween related pun in this column.)
The Des Moines Music Coalition announced its line-up for Little Big Fest last week. The festival is moving to the East Village this year and is splitting its stages between three neighborhood venues. Get your walking shoes on and catch the hot-ticketed action taking place at Wooly’s and House of Bricks on Nov. 17, starting at 5:30 p.m. In addition, the DMMC has added a free stage at The Underground, with music going on from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Here’s everything you can look forward to:
Wooly’s:
5:30 p.m., The Host Country
6:30 p.m., Mary McAdams
7:45 p.m., SUBliminal Chaos
9:15 p.m., Peace, Love, and Stuff
10:30 p.m., Mr. Baber’s Neighbors: The Solar String Band
11:30 p.m., Family Groove Company

Tickets for the shindig run $15 in advance and $20 day of show, with advance tickets available through www.tikly.co.
Thursday, Oct. 25 is Singer-Songwriter Night at House of Bricks. This edition’s performers are Jacob Berhow, Nick Knudsen, Jami Beste and Ryne Doughty. Show starts at 8 p.m., and admission is free.
Also on Oct. 25, Randy Burke is down at the Underground, starting at 8 p.m.
Sound Notes Pick o’ the Week: Friday, Oct. 26, Wooly’s says hello to The Wallflowers. Bob Dylan’s son’s band is back with a new album, and you can see ’em live starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance through www.ticketfly.com and $35 at the door. (Wooly’s also presents Stone Sour performing shows on Oct. 28 and 29, but if you don’t have tickets already, you’re cryin’ because those are sold out.)
Also on Oct. 26, Gas Lamp has Three Bad Jacks and Rumble Seat Riot performing starting at 9 p.m. Admission to that one is $10.
On Sunday, Oct 28, Slip Silo plays down at el Bait Shop. Show starts at 8 p.m.
Then on Wednesday, Oct. 31, Vaudeville Mews has some very angry music happening in the early evening as Reaping Asmodeia plays an all-ages gig starting at 4:30 p.m. Also on the bill are Superior, They Will Repent, Divided, Buster Casey and State of Mind for $7 at the door.
Tony Bohnenkamp closes out our week of coverage over at the Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar. That show is also on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m.
And finally, a mea culpa. In last week’s Sound article about the amazing Stutterin’ Jimmy, I failed to mention the outstanding efforts of guitarist Dusty Eniss. The Goosebumps are the pulse behind Jimmy’s soul, and if you haven’t heard these guys do their thing yet, you really gotta’ correct that. Mahalo. CV
