The first game takes place on Friday (August 13), and it’s an intriguing one: Arsenal, long a powerhouse of the English game but struggling recently, takes on newly promoted Brentford, making its debut in the top tier.

Brentford is one of the favorites for relegation, but the team has been busy in the pre-season, signing four players including most recently the DR Congo forward Yoane Wissa from French side Lorient.

Frank Onyeka comes into the midfield from FC Midtjylland, while defense has been strengthened with the addition of Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic. Add in Ivan Toney — who scored 33 times last year — and Brentford won’t be easy pickings.

That said, Arsenal’s squad is still in a different class. Its chief summer signing was England defender Ben White for a massive £50m, while Bukayo Saka showed great form in Euro 2020 and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has more quality than recent history would suggest. If it all clicks, Arsenal should win.
