IOWA HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATER AWARDS SHOWCASE ON JUNE 5

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines Performing Arts will present the fifth annual IOWA HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATER AWARDS SHOWCASE on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The evening of entertainment will feature more than 500 student performers representing 60 participating high schools from across the state. Tickets to the Showcase, which start at $15, are on sale now at DMPA.org, the Civic Center Ticket Office, and by phone at 515-246-2300.

The IOWA HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATER AWARDS SHOWCASE is a yearlong education program launched by Des Moines Performing Arts. Throughout the school year, performing arts professionals and educators serve as adjudicators to review musical productions and offer constructive feedback to each of the participating high schools. Based on the adjudicators’ feedback, students and productions will be honored with an awards presentation. In addition, the Showcase will feature entertainment from participating high school students.

The program has continued to grow by leaps and bounds since nine schools first participated during its inaugural year in 2012. The program has now expanded to a record 60 schools since it became a statewide initiative starting with the 2016-2017 school year.
