The temperature is heating up this summer and so are the hot outdoor musical acts.

Jazz in July returns to Hoyt Sherman Place on Tuesdays, starting July 13. A free concert opens on the front lawn followed by a second show inside the theater. On July 27, Sam Salomon Band plays outdoors beginning at 6 p.m. Head inside the theater for The Syndicate at 7:30.  

Rendezvous on Riverview is a family-friendly concert series on Friday evenings at the new Riverview Park Riviera Stage. Bring blankets or chairs and the kiddos are welcome to try out the new inclusive playground. The free concerts start at 5:30. On agenda: July 2, Standing Hampton, followed by fireworks; July 9, Party Rocks Dance band featuring Maxx G & T-Flip; July 16, Fahrenheit; July 23, The Sons of Gladys Kravitz; July 30, Plastic Apartment; Aug. 6, Final Mix Show Band featuring Del “The Saxman” Jones. 

Don’t monkey around this summer…visit a monkey at the Zoo Brew on Wednesday nights. Starting at 5:30 p.m., listen to live music on July 14 featuring Cassie and Randy; July 21, Rick Burke and July 28, Dick Danger Band. $14 tickets, must be purchased in advance; free for zoo members. 

Old Dominion announced it is bringing its Live at the Ballpark Tour to Principal Park, Friday, Oct. 8. Renowned for their electrifying performances and explosive energy on stage, the GRAMMY-nominated Nashville band will be in Des Moines with special guests Scotty McCreery, Blanco Brown and Walker County.
