The summer of festivals isn’t over yet, and there’s at least one more you should attend if you care about hip-hop, or local artists, or both. Fresh Fest, Iowa’s annual hip-hop festival, is on Sept. 23 at Brenton Plaza. The event is hosted by a flurry of local crews: Des Moines Music Coalition, Media Fresh Records and the Greater Des Moines Partnership, along with a Heineken sponsorship. Fresh Fest is only in its second year and is growing quickly. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through www.mediafreshrecords.com or www.eventbrite.com. Want some comedy with your hip-hop? YouTube rap sensation Froggy Fresh (formerly known as Krispy Kreme before a predictable phone call from the donut chain) will be rhyming at Vaudeville Mews on Sept. 15. Tickets are $18 and can be found at www.tikly.co/events/2098. Seven Flags Event Center has two hard rock shows this month to take you back to the mid-2000s. Halestorm, fronted by the unparalleled Lzzy Hale, is scheduled for Sept. 27. Tickets are $35 on the day of the show and $30 in advance. Theory of a Deadman is playing three days later on Sept. 27. All tickets are $30. Tickets for both 7 Flags shows can be found on www.ticketmaster.com. Performances in this SOUND ADVICE column are all-ages shows. ♦
