Congratulations are in order for pianist/vocalist Janey Hooper, who was the 2015 inductee to the Community Jazz Center’s Jazz Hall of Fame. Hooper has been plying her trade around central Iowa since the 1970s and has been a fixture in the Des Moines jazz scene ever since. Now, she’s the 45th member of the CJC’s Hall of Fame. Check her out at Carl’s Place on Tuesdays and wish her congrats yourself.

This week, this Pick o’ the Week is at Lefty’s on Saturday, Oct. 31, when you can check out Holy White Hounds, The Other Brothers, Red Daughters and The Fuss. The show will run you $10 at the door ($6 if you are in costume), and music starts at 9 p.m. Mahalo. CV
