City Sounds, the Des Moines public piano project, is gearing up for its “season opener” event. On Saturday, May 15, five of the eight public pianos installed throughout the city will be put to good use, as local musicians ranging from Brother Trucker’s Andy Fleming to Annalibera’s Anna Gebhardt play acoustic sets. Check out www.dsmpianos.com for a complete rundown of musicians, locations and times.
99.1 KFMG is on the hunt for a new home. The low-frequency radio station, currently housed on the 11th floor of the Hotel Fort Des Moines, will be leaving its current location when the Hotel’s new owners begin their remodel of the location later this year. Station owner Ron Sorenson has been in talks with locations around the city, but nothing has been signed yet. If you’ve got a location that might be a good fit and are willing to donate some space to one of the city’s cultural stalwarts, contact Sorenson at www.kfmg991.org.
The Pick o’ the Week this week is up at the Hull Ave Tavern. Get up there this Friday, May 15, to check out The Other Brothers, playing along with The Dirty Kids. Show kicks off at 9 p.m and there is no cover. Mahalo. CV
