Sound Notes

80/35 has announced its show dates for 2015. The only real reason this is more remarkable than years past is because the Des Moines Music Coalition has decided to move its signature event off its traditional July 4 weekend. So for next year, mark your calendars for Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11. Tickets won’t go on sale until next March, so stay tuned for the usual anticipation, buildup and complaining.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, The Des Moines Social Club Theater will be home to the first “Burton Ball.” The event, looking to raise money for the John Stoddard Compassion Fund, will feature Tim Burton-inspired art and decorations, and attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Burton character. So, expect to see a lot of Nightmare Before Christmas. Music will be provided by our own Green Death, The Maw, Rumble Seat Riot and The Spartan Blue.

This week’s Pick o’ the Week is down at Ritual Cafe, where Aimee Terpening, Claire Norman, Gayla Drake and Jen Allen will be performing in the round. Show starts at 7 p.m and is free, though tipping is encouraged. Mahalo. CV
