In honor of April being Jazz Appreciation Month, the Community Jazz Center (CJC) will host an 11-hour jazz festival at Java Joes on Sunday, April 6. The event will kick off at 9 a.m. and is both open to the public and free to attend, though donations are being accepted at the door to support the CJC’s many programs. Speaking of Jazz, the sites have been chosen for the 2014 Jazz in July season: Yankee Doodle Pops, July 3; Urbandale Fourth of July Celebration, July 4; Evelyn K. Davis Park, July 5; Farm Bureau Financial Services, July 10; Hispanic Education Resources, July 11; Waveland Park, July 12; Sylvan Theater, July 13; Clive Festival, July 17; Wesley Acres, July 23; American Enterprise Group, July 24; Copper Creek Lake Park, July 25; and West Glen Town Center, July 26. All are free community performances.

The Pick o’ the Week is at Vaudeville Mews on Saturday, March 22. The early show that evening has Pinewood Overcoat, playing along with 2 Spooky 4 U and Logan Grote. The show is all-ages, and admission is $5 at the door. Party starts at 5. Mahalo. CV
