Des Moines police assisted with a Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigation on Jan. 15. Deputies responded to a 3:15 p.m. call of a suspicious male standing in the roadway in the 9500 block of Northwest Beaver Drive attempting to stop vehicles. Deputies were in route to the scene, when a second call came in stating that the suspect had stopped a vehicle, assaulted the driver and stolen the victim’s gold Chrysler Town and Country minivan. At 7:45 p.m., Des Moines Police located the stolen vehicle, which had been left unoccupied, in city limits, but no suspect.

SERIAL BURGLARS?

Des Moines Police are investigating six possibly linked cases of burglaries to vehicles, where remote garage door openers and vehicle registrations were taken. Some of these victims have gone back to their residences and found their homes burglarized as well. A window was broken and garage door opener and registration were taken from a vehicle in the parking lot on the Southwest corner of Seventh and Crocker Streets between 1:45-4:25 p.m. On Jan. 9, the victim later found his home in Urbandale was also burglarized. The same suit was followed the next day with a Jewell resident, whose car had been parked at the Iowa State Fairgrounds between 3:30-4:20 p.m. On Jan. 11, four victims in the parking lot at the southwest corner of Third Street and Watson Powell Jr. Way, were burglarized in the same way, between 7:15-9:51 p.m. One of those victims returned to his Des Moines home and found a suspect had attempted to pry into his home but was unsuccessful.
