The victim stated that she and other clients of the shelter were at the K-Mart. She was in the parking lot when another shelter client assaulted her. The victim stated that the suspect was trying to buy medication from her, and she refused. The suspect punched her on the left side of her face twice and pushed her to the ground. The victim is in a wheelchair and is missing part of her right leg below the knee. The victim had obvious bruising and looked to have some minor swelling under her left eye. The victim stated that she had a bruise on her right thigh as well and complained of pain to her ribs. An officer on the scene took photos of the facial injuries. A shelter staff member stated that the suspect would be discharged due to the assault and other strong-arm behavior with other clients.

Empty nest

Officers were dispatched to Guthrie Street on a burglary report on July 18 at around 6 p.m. They met with the niece of the victim, who is caring for the house while the homeowners are away. The caller stated that she and her husband were last at the house on June 29 to mow the lawn. When they returned on July 18 to mow the lawn again, they observed a window on the north side of the house had been left open and the screen was lying on the ground beside the window. The caller stated she climbed in through the window and found that someone had broken into the house and made a mess. The officer observed cabinets and closets open and emptied on the floor and the home being generally messy. The caller stated that she does not know what is missing, but the homeowners have a collection of cameras that cannot be found. The officer spoke with the homeowner on the phone, who stated that she would be able to identify what is missing when she returns to the house in August.

The caller states that she didn’t see them arrive but knew the suspect kicked in her front door. After the door was kicked in, the two women got into a physical fight on the front lawn. It was reported that a shot broke up the fight. The officers did not find any evidence of the shot. CV
