Self-serve dog wash opens in Urbandale8/27/2014
Canine Clean, located at 2311 Rocklyn Drive, offers everything needed to make your dogs look and smell great, including professional tubs, aprons, towels, brushes, shampoo, conditioner and dryers. All dogs must be on a leash, and walk-ins are welcome, though washes must start at least 30 minutes prior to closing. Consignment shop closed in Valley Junction
Act II Boutique, a consignment shop selling designer brand clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry, closed down its location in Valley Junction’s shopping district on Aug. 16 due to scarce business. Owner Debbie Adkins moved her store from its original location at 3029 100th St. in Urbandale about 16 months ago.
Chick-fil-A to open in Ankeny
The fast food restaurant is set to open Sept. 4 at 2410 S.E. Delaware Ave., between the Casey’s and IHOP restaurant in front of the Walmart. Thomas Krogman, the franchisee of the newest Chick-fil-A, is taking applications to fill 65 to 80 full- and part-time jobs in the 4,700-square-foot building. The jobs will pay between $7.25 and $9 an hour for part-time and $8.50 to $12 an hour for full-time, depending on experience. The new restaurant will have dual drive-thru lanes, free Wi-Fi and a play area outside. Chick-fil-A also offers a year’s worth of free chicken sandwiches to the first 100 people in line on a store’s opening day.
Bridal shop moves down the block in Valley Junction
Selina’s Bridal Boutique will move into 220 Fifth St. on Sept. 2, where Back Alley Bargains is located until it closes on Aug. 31. The bridal shop is currently at 228 Fifth St. and will expand its selection to include more prom, homecoming and charity gala dresses, in addition to bridal gowns. The spaces are about equal size, though owner Selina Orman said she will hold a moving sale for bridal gowns starting at $79.99 and bridesmaids dresses starting at $19.99. Cindy’s Corner Café moves into OverTime
Cindy Barnes-Stone has closed her café at 100th St. in Urbandale and combined it with another restaurant. Barnes-Stone recently took over ownership of the OverTime Neighborhood Hub for Sports and Grub at 4810 86th St. in Urbandale. The sports bar recently began opening at 6 a.m. to serve Cindy’s Corner Café breakfast, in addition to regular OverTime lunch and dinner.
Urbandale Incredible Buffet and Fun Center closed
The restaurant at 3799 N.W. 86th St. in Urbandale closed its doors on Aug. 17 after business hours. It opened in 2009 and included a 48,000-square-foot fun center with miniature golf, go-karts, mini-bowling and bumper cars.
Mattress Outlet closes in Ankeny
The mattress store located at 2005 S.E. Delaware Ave. in Ankeny will close in October because owner Maggie Mulhall is retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren, she said. Mattress Outlet sells mattress sets, bed frames and related items and will hold a going-out-of-business sale with discounts up to 60 percent. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday.
Keg Stand nominated for best beer bar
The Keg Stand, located at 3530 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, was nominated as one of Craftbeer.com’s 2014 Great American Beer Bars for the North Central Region. The Keg Stand is one of 3,400 better beer bars nominated for the award and has made the top 10 in its region.
