Floral Touch owner Nancy Nelson has been in business more than 20 years in Valley Junction. But she’s moved Floral Touch, a one-stop shop for silk flower arrangements, to Clive at 8421 University Blvd., Suite L. Nelson cut the ribbon at her new location during an April 17 open house. It will continue to provide the same services and products it always has, she said, including Floral Touch’s popular custom floral bouquets. No joke, comedy club officially opens in WDM

Last Laugh Comedy Theater cut the ribbon last week, and the Chicago-style improv comedy club is officially open, showcasing the best crop of local comedians. DMPS admin office vies for Iowa Lotto location

Des Moines Public Schools has made an offer of $1.6 million to purchase the current headquarters of the Iowa Lottery, located at 2323 Grand Ave., to serve as the administrative offices for the school district. If both the School Board and the Iowa Lottery Authority Board can come to an agreement, the move will allow the Walnut Street School to expand in its current location, an upgrade of mechanical systems and a remodel of additional classroom space as well as save taxpayers about $80,000 year in parking for employees. The purchase will be considered by the School Board at the May 20 meeting.

Downtown Farmers Market opens for 39th season

Every Saturday, rain or shine, from May 3 to Oct. 25, spanning nine city blocks in the Historic Court District, from 7 a.m.–noon. The Downtown Farmers Market returns is adding 50 new vendors this year to its traditional lineup of 300 local entrepreneurs, farmers, producers, bakers, artists and more, representing 58 counties across the state offering seasonal fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, poultry, cheese, eggs, wine, flowers, bedding plants, breads, pastries, nuts and so much more. The Market also offers specialty and artisan lunch and breakfast food, provides a variety of local art and entertainment, and offers learning opportunities and special programming.
